One of the multiple facets of the non attachment
To be detached is not to stay apart. There’s often a confusion between the psychological concept of attachment and the notion of non-attachment (in buddhism and other traditions).
To be detached does not mean being insensitive.
but to remain conscious that we only perceive a fragment of the whole reality - and this is so needed when a week starts with a feeling of a never ending nightmare in Russia and all over the world…
We can still hold on hopes and dreams only if we are able to put our faith and our senses into the sensations of the transitions that happen in the invisible.
Oftentimes we fool ourselves by thinking we are highly sensitive when in fact we jump from the sensation to the perceptions and the thoughts we create around. We call high sensitivity the hyper reactions derived from this mental activity. Sentimentalism is sterile but highly marketed and quite successful in our societies.
Sensation is not associated to any judgement for our bodyheart. Yet we are not insensitive and remain able to discern what is good or bad for us, what feels good or bad,
One way to be detached is then to deeply feel the liminal area between sensation and feeling, thus creating space to remain open, compassionate, kind without grasping on emotions or past events.
As we enter spring, I find quite funny that we are so afraid of change yet we remain so frustrated with stagnation. But Nature itself reminds us that spring is not a date, but a season, that is to say a whole process of transitions without real beginnings or ends.
And we transition from one season of our Life to another by many subtle steps in or body, individually and collectively.
Non attachment then? Learning to get in touch with the layers of transition, in the intimacy of our bodyheart, greatly helps us to release and let go in times of uncertainty, or when we grasp endlessly to understand. Then we can go from the tiny details to the big picture and navigate more easily from one to another. Back and forth we can
One thing that helps me to deepen the sensing of transitioning and to access non attachment is to play with very close notes. By ascending from the fundamental note to the minor 2nd for example, we can listen AND feel the transition that is not so natural to our ears in our Western musical culture. You don’t have to know music to do that. You can train yourself to improvise with your voice in ways that sounds uncomfortable, maybe not adjusted. We can also do some vocal toning or play with the harmonic sounds, it’s a wonderful and simple way to constantly refine our ears and our heart (see my video to practice).
That’s one way to improve our ability to feel at ease with subtle and delicate transitions… and to learn non attachment : I sing, I sense, I let go… and I start anew. Celebrating renewals in my bodyvoice… and slightly transferring these skills in my life - like creating some distance with someone without fear of loss or judgment, or changing the shape of a project without blaming myself for failing with the first idea…
All starts inside… the more we create intimacy with the pure sensation, the more we release the suffering of attachment coming with the apparent beginnings and ends. And we become able to really meet the Other, meet our Self, and create relationships from a place of spaciousness and freedom. Our bodyvoice is a super playground to experiment non attachment and nourish our sensitivity in a ‘healthy’ way!
